2nd International e-Conference on Translation: Translation, Mediation and Accessibility for Linguistic Minorities. University of Cordoba – Leibniz Universität Hannover, September 24th – 25th, 2020

Following the remarkable success of the 1st e-Conference on translation Translation in and for Society. Investigating Sociological and Cultural Aspects in Literary and Specialised Domains (26-28 September 2017) and the 1st International Conference Translating Minorities and Conflict in Literature (Córdoba, 10-11 June 2020), this second virtual conference aims to create a shared space for reflection on topics related to translation and mediation for linguistic minorities and minority languages.

The conference will be held in English and Spanish using Adobe Connect, a real-time video conferencing tool that lets you add files, share applications, and use a virtual whiteboard to interact. Adobe Connect opens right in your browser, so you don’t have to install any software to join the conference. Technical support and tests shall be provided prior to the conference.

Alternatively, speakers may record their presentations and send their video as an mp4-file prior to the conference.

This conference welcomes proposals related but not limited to the following issues:

  • Translation and interpreting for language minorities
  • Translation and interpreting in minority languages
  • Translation and interpreting in sign languages
  • Public service interpreting
  • Translation and interpreting for migrants, asylum-seekers and exiled persons
  • Intralinguistic translation and interpreting: leichte Sprache, easy-to-read, lectura fácil, einfache Sprache, Plain Language, lenguaje claro, Schriftdolmetschen, speech-to-text interpretation
  • Audiovisual translation and accessibility: subtitling for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, audio description, inclusive museums and theatres, etc.
  • Teaching: linguistic mediation activities in Spanish as a foreign language and other foreign languages
  • The manipulation of national images through translation
  • Teaching: linguistic mediation activities in Spanish as a foreign language and other foreign languages
  • Translanguaging, polylanguaging, heteroglossia
  • Language policies and language ideologies
  • Indigenous languages and linguistic revitalisation
  • Migration linguistics
  • Middle and Far East languages and migration

Submission Guidelines

Submissions are invited for 20-minute presentations in English or Spanish. Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words (excluding references). Please submit your abstract including the title of the paper, author name, affiliation and e-mail address to:

Selected papers will be published in an edited volume following a peer-review process.
